Buying MACs: What else?
Buying MACs: What else?
OK I'm buying MACs and the cats off of a guy from this board for a pretty good deal. They have 02 bungs, all emissions, etc.
Do I need anything else? Stage 8 locking bolts? Felpro gasket? My car only has 15K on it, so I don't think I need new plugs or wires or anything like that...
Also, any install tips? This should bolt/weld right up to my cat back (eventually it'l be a LM) right?

Yeah it will bolt up. I had to use a dremel tool to chop off a little piece of extra engine block on the drivers side. I had a exhaust shop weld the part of the Y pipe that slips into the cat back. I also asked the exhaust shop owner what he felt about locking bolts and he basically said they have a good chance of some how causing a gasket to blow.
stuff you will need:
-gaskets for the different air hoses
-gasket sealant
-gaskets for the headers
Do search on the restrictor plate, that's something you will probably want to do also.
PM me if you run into any problems during the install.

The two parts they go to are very easy to get to and unscrew with two bolts each. I am going to just remove the restrictors for the emissions test. Otherwise it will make an exhaust leak type sound and burn up the valves.
The only trouble I am going to run into is finding a shop that is "friendly" enough to not care about a visual, maybe for a price.

That's absolutely ridiculus. Having a locking device on the outside of the bolt in no way effects the holding potential of the bolt.
If the mating surface of the Macs is nice and flat I'd use some factory multi layer steel gaskets.

Can you tell me about the restrictor plate and if it's emissions friendly?

I am fairly certain that the mid-legnths are emmisions friendly, but it still depends on the state. However, if you have a visual test for inspection, you will fail since when you get mid-legnths, the cats have to be moved.

According to my recent dyno run I am also running rich, but you still might want to take out the restrictorr plates for emissions tests considering how close I cut it.
