Broken trans mount

Broken trans mount
I suspected my 1995 Z28 automatic had a broken trans mount because driving over the same rough road each morning my transmission seemed to be thumping the chassis these last several months. My trans was rebuilt three years ago, so I figured they used a new mount. The odd thing was, when I took out the bad mount yesterday, turns out it was a urethane mount, and I was installing a urethane mount as an upgrade from what I thought was a stock mount! Then it hit me: of course the mounts break easily, the torque arm attaches at the transmission, and is always pushing up the transmission as we drive and accelerate down the road! That would explain why new simple biscuit mounts can break same day! The torque arm should be chassis mounted, not trans mounted! So a cool invention would be a bolt-on chassis kit for the stock stamped torque arm, which is strong enough, just badly configured!

Re: Broken trans mount
Many 4th Gen suspension manufacturers offer a bracket to relocate the mount to the chassis, and have for years. Most aftermarket torque arms, particularly those intended for increased HP level applications, are chassis mounted.
