brakelight problems

Hello guys, i just bought a 95 z28 and I am having problems with the 2 lower brakelights. We checked bulbs, fuses, brakelight switch. we are trying to get into the wiring behind the steering wheel but arent having much luck. The high mounted light, hazard lights, tail lights and turn signals all work. The car was in an accident at one time and the airbags were deployed and we are worried the wiring may be damaged to the brake lights.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Re: brakelight problems

its most likely the turn signal switch. the brake lights run through brake light switch, then to the t/s switch then to the brake light bulb filaments. the 3rd brake light comes directly from the brake switch and bypasses the t/s switch. thats why that still works. it the hazard portion of the switch that always fails causing the drop of the signal. to test just find the flat black plug mounted to the right on the steering column, then test the brake light feed (light blue) then the 2 wires coming out of the switch(dark green for right, yellow for left). if you have power on the light blue with the brake depresed and no power on the other two coming out then the switch is defective. if you do have power on all wires then you have a bad connection or a broken wire somewhere.

hope that helps you
