ok so i just replaced the rear calipers rotors pads and the brakes work great but the squeek like you would not believe. it is the most annoying thing ever. the only thing i didn't replace was the caliper brackets. i think this is the cause of my problems, so how do i get a new one. autozone doesn't carry them lappens wont sell me one and carquest cant get them. does napa carry them? if nto does anyone know the part number

i searched on the site but coudn;t come up wth anything i needed to know

Re: brake squeeks

Did you break them in properly? I highly doubt it is the caliper bracket that is to blame, I've never seen that before while wrenching. Most people never break the brakes in properly and that leads to squeeling. What pads did you use?

Re: brake squeeks

So, you replaced the rotors and pads?????? Did you remove the oil film on the face of the rotors with brake cleaner????

Re: brake squeeks

Did you put the little silencer pads that come with the brakes on the back of the inside pads? That could be causing the squeaking. I have the same problem after replacing the rear rotors, and nobody sells just the silencer pads.

On a side note, does anybody know what to do about this? The squeaking is only around left hand turns... LOL

Re: brake squeeks

I always get squeeks if I do not clean the piston properly. Whenever I do my brakes I make sure to clean EVERYTHING with break cleaner to get all of the residue from the previous pads off. I also use some of that break quiet stuff on the back of the pads. I haven't had a squeek since.

Re: brake squeeks

Brake silencer goo works wonders.. and some say to file the leading edge.. I have found that the silencer goo works most of the time.. file only in extreme applications..

Squeaking on tight turns could also be a bad posi unit

Break in your brakes properly...spell it correctly, too

Well, it never squeaked around corners before I did the back rotors, so I would imagine that the brake quiet should do the trick. Thanks guys.

Re: brake squeeks

So you say they squeek all the time? Well for starters it might just be the oil film that you didn't clean off. You didn't notice it? My rotors came in a bag and it was wet in side. It's to keep them from rusting during storage. You have to clean it off with brake cleaner then install. Maybe yours didn't come with it?

But secondly... you went with cheap pads. Don't expect them to be nice and quiet. The brake pads are alway just slightly touching/rubbing agaist the rotor. Cheap pads tend to squeek/squeal more. Not saying thats the problem.. but if it it's.. then you just have to deal with it.

Re: brake squeeks

If you want to get rid of the sqeaking, get the VGX pads from Summit. They claim that they done squeak and they dont. Ive had them on my vert for years after having enough of the sqeaky GM pads. My GF made me put them on her Z3 because her sqeaking was driving her crazy too.

Re: brake squeeks

i got my brakes from NAPA, GM equivalent, no squeaking here, but then again they didnt squeak before i replaced them either. I think ill just pick up some of that brake quiet.

My rotors came in a bag too, but they werent wet or slippery or anything. They had just ordered them the previous day, maybe that is why.

They still have the coating, it just might not have been very wet in the bag. That is probably the source of your squeek right there. You need to clean the rotor again and then the pad itself. Then you may want to scuff up the pad if there is anything on it. On Napa pads, I only use the Ceramix. They are the best brake pad I've ever used. They are quiet, never squeeked with me, and VERY clean. It's been over 2 weeks since I've washed my car and my rims still look extremely clean.

Also, depending which version of Napa pads you bought it could be the pads problem. At work we used the 'safety stop' version and they always squeeked no matter what we did. We use the Application Enginered version. We still get squeeks once in awhile with those but it is far less. One problem with the AE's, you'll have black rims every day no matter what you do.
