Re: brake lights

You may have the bulbs placed incorrectly in the socket. When that occurs, the wrong filament lights up (in this case the brighter one), and it may appear as if the brake lights are on. Make sure you match the pattern on the inside of the socket with that of the bulbs. The bulbs have these small notches, and one is higher than the other.

Hope this helps.

Re: brake lights

So the car was off, and the lights were still on? Did you properly adjust the brake light switch? Thread in the switch too much and the lights won't come on. Thread in too little and the lights stay on. It might be the latter if the switch is not adjusted correctly. This would also cause the brake lights to stay on even with the car off and the brake pedal not pressed. Hope this helps.

Re: brake lights

If when this happens, the third brake lamps do not light up, but in normal braking operation they do light up, the problem may be in the hazard/turn switch circuit. When this happens, do the front ones light brighter also?
