brake light issues-ideas? and others

I have a 1997 Trans Am and the brake lights are not working, except for the high mount light. I installed a new switch at the brake pedal as well. Any ideas? I did a search and could not find anything that worked.
Also, the headlights come up with the parking lights. Is that normal? I don't remember my 94 doing that. Only 1 (drivers side) daytime light comes on and all bulbs have been replaced and fuses checked.

Any help would be appreciated,
Chris

BTW: We just reinstalled the engine. Would there be a connection somewhere that may have caused this?

Looks like a broken wire in the steering column is to blame. If you move the tilt up and down you will get some brake lights. I will have to check the others later.

OK, question. I have the assembly from a 95 Formula that we parted some time ago. Will this lever and wiring fit my 97? And what is the best way to replace this? Is there a simple way of just replacing one wire?
