Re: bose stereo
believe the backs are 6 1/2 or 6x9
can't quite recall for the Z (RS has 6x9s)
yea, in 93-94 they only had 3 speakers
95-96 they had 5
97-02 they had the monsoon which had 8 in the camaro and 10 in the firebird

Re: bose stereo
Actually....all the interior speakers, minus the sub in the rear, are 6 1/2" speakers. You can make a 6x9 work, but they are 6 1/2 from the factory.
I'm not really sure how you would want to wire them in. If you are going to keep the Bose system, you'd need the sail panel speakers from an F-body with a 5 speaker Bose system. Well, you don't HAVE to, but you won't get the full Bose experiance without them.
I'm not sure how the speakers are wired up from the factory harness no yours, but you'd have to splice them either in to the door speakers or the rear sub. I would think you'd want to wire it in to the front speakers since they'd be the same size as the rears.
You might want to try posting your question or doing a search in the Car audio portion of the forums. They are a little more knowledgeable that department than I am.

Keep in mind that the Bose Speakers are a different Ohm Rating...
I want to say they are 1 Ohm, but I cant quite remember
You need to get Bose speakers, you can't just drop in any old speaker
I happen to have 4 Bose Speakers and a Bose Sub from a 96, should drop right in.
PM me if you are interested.

Re: bose stereo
The Bose system is a bit complex.
1) The HU (headunit) is not amplified. The outputs are line level. You cannot hook speakers directly to the HU.
2) Each speaker has its very own little 1 channel amp bolted right to it. The line level output from the HU comes into this amp, then out to the speaker. I think the speakers are 10 ohm, but am not sure. In any event, you are best off using OEM Bose speakers if you decide to use the factory 1 channel amps.
It is possible to intercept the line level outputs from the HU and run them to an aftermarket amplifier and speakers. I have done this in my car, and it sounds great. I have a Soundstream Reference 405 in the trunk bridged to 3 channels running 2-way components in the doors and a 10" sub in the trunk. All this with the factory HU. My interior looks completely stock and the stereo can rock the house!

Re: bose stereo
If later on Brendon decides to put in an aftermarket Head unit and keep the bose speakers, will this new HU need to have 3 sets of preouts to utilize the sub in the back and use a line out adapter. If so which one should he get because most I've seen have only 2 sets of preouts?

The 3 speaker sub doesn't have the amps in it for the sail speakers, only the single rear speaker[obviously]..
Also, there is a wiring difference the 5 speaker has a 9 wire and a seperate 2 wire plug going to it..
The 5 speaker sub has one 5 wire plug going to it..
Here's the schematic for the 5 speaker system from shoebox' site..

The head unit IS the same for 3 or 5 speaker systems..
