Is Borla worth it
Is Borla worth it
Is borla Catback systems really worth all the money. I want to upgrade to Borla but that is alot of money. Let me know what you think or any other suggestions you might have. Thanks

Re: Is Borla worth it
I have bought 2 of them now, one for my last car and one for this one. I love the sound, and the fact it is built like a tank. It's stainless steel, and has a lifetime warranty. It polishes up nicely, is easy to install yourself with minimal tools.
It is also the only exhaust that comes adjustable. I have an e-cutout in mine and can control the loudness of the exhaust from the drivers seat.
If you get one, it will be the last exhaust system you buy for that specific car.

Granted it is very pricey, but for those who have it, they are generally pleased with the sound and quality of the system. And considering it is stainless steel and has such a good warranty, you will never have to buy another cat-back again so I guess that makes up for the up-front high cost.

All great points.
But is the sound from a Borla worth $400 more than the sound from a Magnaflow?
I didn't think so.
That's why I went Magnaflow.

Also, Just out of curiosity, Is the Magnaflow stainless steel with a full lifetime warranty?
Re: Is Borla worth it
Mine came on the car when I bought it, and I'll probably try to sell it to fund my true Duals once I get my longtubes. It sounds excellent though, and its louder than 90% of the other LT1's I run across. I get compliments on the sound all the time from everyone.
Re: Is Borla worth it
I bought a Borla, used it for 5 years, and sold it for about $200 less than I paid for it. It still looked brand new, all polished up like a mirror. I only removed it because I needed a Mufflex 4" catback to support 800HP.

Re: Is Borla worth it
if u are that worried about the price u can find used ones in good condition on here for right around 300-400, i HIGHLY recommend borla, if u even think of flowmaster or magnaflow your wqasting your time, flowmaster is almost worse than stock if not worse and magnaflow does very little from the dyno sheets ive seen for the money, borlas definately the way im going, that or gmmg which is even more expensive than borla, dont play around with the little boy exhaust

I wasn't trying to start a Borla versus Magnaflow debate.
I have no doubt there are very good reasons to go with a Borla over a Magnaflow. I was just attempting to point out that they both have great, stainless steel construction, so some may find the Magnaflow more to their liking.
Re: Is Borla worth it
All catbacks within reason are going to gain you the same thing. Expect no more than 8-15rwhp.
Borla's arent that impressive. I have a magazine article where they switched from a Borla to Magnaflow and gained 6rwhp and 9rwtq. OMG Borla, no, no.
I have seen dyno sheets in my years showing Magnaflow to be very good in the rwhp/rwtq department. They sound good and are about $400 cheaper than a Borla and still made from stainless steel. The whole adjustible plate thingy is just marketing and changes the sound. I am not impressed by what you get for $700 or so.
To me they dont even sound good, and just wait till you get headers and/or off road pipe, now you have a $700 catback sounding like a beat up Hill Billy truck with no exhaust at all. Add a cam and youll for sure selling you catback.
If you plan on spending big money on a catback get one that at least sounds decent, buy GMMG or Corsa in the high dollar range. I recommend Corsa loosely though, the HP gains are only top end and very litte.
If you are on a budget like most people, buy something that is a good balance for your money. The Magnaflow will make just as much power, with good craftsmanship for $400 less. SLP loudmouth is cheap and stainless too, as is the SLP 2OTL and Dual/Dual setup. Flowmaster, Hooker, and Edelbrock are aluminized steel, but they do sound decent and many folks love them. In my opinion any catback that utilizes the terrible crossflow muffler design will make about the same power. Until you get to more unique high flowing exhausts like the LM or GMMG or True Duals, your going to be stuck in the same power bracket.
But if your a Borla fan and you want to get one, go get it, but there are certainly better or just as good catbacks for as much or much less money. Just think you could buy a Magnaflow and have $400 towards headers or a Hotcam kit, or something else to get more from your money. I recommend buying any catback in the 600+ range used to get the most from your money.
This was said above and does apply well in this case: "I guess the extra $400 means different things to different people. I saw it as very worth while, but others might not be able to justify the extra dough."
Its mostly personal preference.

Re: Is Borla worth it
I like the sound of my car with headers, high flow cat, and borla with the open plate. It gives it that (please don't flame me) "NASCAR" sound. I think it sound really mean and agressive.
