Borla Exhaust?

so i'm interested in getting a borla exhaust because of the RAVE reviews on them...

anyways, how will any of teh exhaust flow go through the muffler itself if the passenger side pipe is straight through lik ethis example?

somebody please explain this

Re: Borla Exhaust?

Simply put the passenger side has 'plates' with various sized holes in them[from large hole to no hole]and in that first joint that you see there on the passenger side, you either leave the plate OUT or put one IN...
This regulates how much exhaust bypasses, or goes thru the muffler..
NO plate is the loudest, and the least exhaust goes thru the muffler, and FULL[no hole] plate forces all exhaust thru the muffler, and is the quietest..

Re: Borla Exhaust?

basically it's a $700 cutout....that's stainless

and where have there been RAVE reviews...most people i see say it's raspy, expensive and not really worth it. although the tips are nice

And here's a link to a dyno test of the Borla adjustable system, including the various bypass plate sizes:

Re: Borla Exhaust?

WOW...that's a cool set of graphs.

nice to see the 10hp gain from stock to borla...

not that impressive to see the minimal gains from the various plates. definatly nothing you'd feel (other than in your eardrums). goes to show that the borla muffler is pretty freeflowing as it sits.

makes me even more glad i never jumped on the borla bandwagon. i remember when i first got into fbodies...they were talked of as the **** for power. but i think i'm glad i went with my $350 magnaflow setup

Re: Borla Exhaust?

i personally do own a borla exhaust as does my brother. they sound amazing and they my not increase horsepower much but plain exhaust will give u much. it sounds great. it all depends on the type of sound u want to make. borlas have a nice little pop when u get on them they sound great. i do not have headers, tho i wish i did. my brother however does have headers and it makes his sound even better. u can tell the difference in sound with the varying plates to. i keep mine open!

Re: Borla Exhaust?

I got one of the first Borlas back in 1996 and it is still going strong. The sound is awesome. I run closed plate most of the time, however I am thinking about a e-cutout.

It cost $569.00 brand new at the time.

Re: Borla Exhaust?

so you're runing it open most of the time...

basically you paid $600 for a sound that a $30 cutout would have accomplished.

to each his own.

can't argue on the longevity of the setup...stainless is nice...but $$$$

Re: Borla Exhaust?

The Borla does sound very good. I've had mine since 99 and it sounds and looks good after all these years. Pricey but a good exhaust system. My next choice would have been Corsa.

Teke184, I've notice you always bash Borla on other threads, did somebody beat you down with a Borla exhaust and now it brings flash backs?

Re: Borla Exhaust?

The Borla is more than just a cutout. Its nice because when it is wide open the noise is out the back of the car instead of under it like a cutout. Sure its expensive but its very good quality. Its probably not worth the price tag it has though but neither is any of the other high end exhausts. I bought my Corsa used for about half price of new, and i can tell you that there is no way its worth the $800 price they are new.

I was noticing that pattern in this thread as well...

Its cool if you don't like the Borla man but,it does have its good points.

Stainless
Adjustable
Looks good

And has pretty much become a classic if you will with F-Bodies.Kinda of like Flowmasters=Mustangs well,Borla=F-Bodies.

I do agree that it is OVER priced but,I think most of the systems out there are over priced.I don't think that there should be a catback out there that costs more than $500 but they exist!(Borla,Corsa,GMMG,...etc...ect)

Its all choice man...You have yours as does everyone else. Not trying to beat on you man, just also wonderin' why you seem really "personal" about Borla...

Everything in the end can be done cheaper..You can get a frame and strap a motor and wheels to it and go racing down the 1/4 mile all day long!!

But,...in the end, most people want something a little nicer than that to go home in...Sometimes people just want to splurge and pamper their car...

Even the Magnaflow catback you mentioned (not knocking it,I have had it and its an awesome system) is over indulging when you think about it.

Anyways,I'm done voicing my "A" hole...err...my opinion

Sorry if I offended, not my intention man....

Re: Borla Exhaust?

If you don't like switching plates, try this...

I love being able to adjust the exhaust sound from the drivers seat.

What e-cutout is that? Has it held up well?
