Re: best performance headers

Then without a doubt get nothing but Kooks stainless.. ESPECIALLY with the salt, any other header will only last a couple years before flaking like Kelly Pickler!

Re: best performance headers

Stainless dissapates heat better than other materials used in headers. You don't really need to get them coated. I wouldn't..

Re: best performance headers

i was actuallly wanting to get them ceramic coated black. everything else under the hood is black...why not keep it that way. and also to cut down on the heat.

but what about the cats? Should i run cats w/ a electric cut-out, or no cats and no cut-out? I think no cats and a cut-out wont provide enough back pressure.

Re: best performance headers

these cars need some back-pressure though. and i was actually thinking of getting hte kooks stainless now. and stick a cut-out after the y-pipe so i can bypass the muffler.

Re: best performance headers

Our cars need no backpressure. Delete that myth from your head. If you are worried about emissions testing, get cats. If not, then no cats.

Re: best performance headers

dont care about emmissions testing. in NJ they just plug into the OBDII and as long as the computer thinks everything is ok, ill pass imspection. dont know about other states, but they dont use a sniffer on ODBII cars in NJ anymore.

Why would people say our cars need backpressure? Guess ill go with no cats and a cut-out.

Re: best performance headers

just what i have heard from people. no one in particular.

i could care less. i am gonna keep the muffler to keep it a bit quieter....but have an electric cut-out for when i want it loud.

Re: best performance headers

Keep the muffler, but go no cats...

Yeah a lot of people are under the impression every car needs backpressure. That is true of some cars, but definitely not ours.

Here is what I would go with, deom header to outlet...

Kooks Headers, no emission attachments. (Coated if you want, but I would not)
Off each header a cutout.
From cutout to True duals with a muffler, chambered probably...

Re: best performance headers

As great as that would be to do true duals...i am on a budget (just bought a house), so i am just going to get a set of LTs (eitehr pacesetters or Kooks), no cats, y-pipe, cut-out in the intermediate pipe, and keep my SLP dual/dual muffler.

Re: best performance headers

It is not hard, but it is time consuming. Find a buddy local who has done it before, and most will help out for beer and pizza. You need to get the front end as high up as humanly possible. When you get ready to do it, post up in your states forum area, and ask if anyone will help. I am sure you will get someone to help.

Re: best performance headers

i was gonna drive the rear of the car on ramps, then use my floor jack on the front. once i maxed out the floor jack, i was gonna support the car on stands, lower the jack. put some 2 x 8's under the jack and do it all over again until i can get the front wheels about 2 feet off the ground. my floor jack only goes to 20" and i cant find one under 500 to go higher.

Re: best performance headers

Its going to suck trying to do it with the car only 2' above the ground, but it might be possible. What are you going to do if the engine needs to be tilted to get the header in?
