BCM's ????
BCM's ????
Do you have to reet your BCM's or something once you un-plug them??
My security light wont turn off, and car wont start. I have to jump the TDR.
ALSO the car that we took the BCM out of to check to see if my BCM was bad is now doing the exact same thing as mine now that we put it back in. SECURITY LIGHT ON!!!
do I need to reset them somehow???
thanks

first, did you check all the VATS wiring?
well when I put the other bcm in my car we used the right resistors that correspond.
BUT when we put that BCM back in the car (My Brothers car)
the security light stays on and the car wont turn over.
So we have to jump the TDR.
Makes no sense to me.
WHy should unplugging the BCM cause any problems?

u will probably hafta bypass the VATS system if you want to use a used BCM because the BCM "remembers" the resistor value of the first key used when the BCM is new and then that is the only resistance u can use to start the car...if u bypass the VATS then u can just use a key without a resistor pellet...but in order to do that u need to figure out the resistance value that is already programed in the BCM....check shoebox's website..theres some good info on there about it
as for pluggin it back in your brother's car with the security light...try pulling your PCM BATT fuse out for about 15 seconds(its in the fuse panel on the left side of ur dash) and then put it back in and try starting it...give the chance for everything to reset

Im down to the exact same thing in both cars now that I got my wiring figured out on my car.
But i'll try that and see what happens.
thanks
any other suggestions??
if i can think of something else ill definitely let you know..bc i had BCM trouble myself a while back...but its now fixed and perfect again
lemme know what happens once u pull the fuse and reset (start/no start) also if it does start...turn it off and back on a few times to make sure the security light wont come back on..bc i also had that problem before...started once and then after i let it sit for a few mins i went to start it and security light was back on and it wouldnt start

You can't swap BCMs, unless you know that they both use the same pellet resistance in the keys. That's why, when you swapped them, neither would work. Your experiment had just a little flaw in it.
No we read the other key and used the right resistors. Im not stupid enough to just swap them and see if they work.
The reason why mine didnt work is because we had the whole entire car disassembled and there is another connector right nnext to the BCM that actually fits perfectly into the BCM and we were not getting power to the BCM. We finally noticed we did not have the big red and orange powr wires like my Bro's car had and saw that we had 2 connectors that were switched.
Anyway shobox why do you think the BCM's will not work now?
do I take them to the GM house to get re-set?
or just pull the PCM fuse like the other guy said for a bit??

Ok, well, you did not provide all that information to start with.
AFAIK, there is no resetting an old BCM. The only time it is initialized is when you install a new one and it is powered up for the first time with whatever key you have. The key info is then set and stored permanently.
Are you saying you swapped them back and they still don't work?

Im saying I had probs with y car so I pulled the bcm out of my brothers. We then found out why my stereo, windows, lights and all to do with the bcm, was not working. Like I said in the previous post we had 2 connectors switched. Now I have everything working in my car but the security light stays on and the car wont start.
So we then have to jump the TDR to get it started.
Now we then returned my brothers BCM to his camaro and the same thing my car is doing. Security light is on, Car wont start so we jump the TDR and it starts.
We did nothing but simply pull his bcm and put it back in and now the security light is on.???
any help is appreciated
thanks

wen u pull the pcm batt fuse its just like disconnecting the battery except alot easier...it resets the PCM not the BCM but it gives the chance to clear that security light because when that security light goes on..its bc the BCM recognized a different resistance than what is programmed into it...if u dont wanna pull the fuse or disconnect the battery to reset the power to it...then u can wait 30 mins and try again lol...but just pull the fuse for 15 seconds, pop it back in, and u should be good assuming all the resistance is the same
Did you try leaving the key in the ON position (not engaging START) on your brother's car for a minute or two, to see if the security light clears? When the VATS has seen a failure, it often takes a little time to clear after things have been made normal (good) again.
