Battery relocation "HELP INSIDE"

I am doing an battery relcocation on my 94 z. I was wondering where is a solid part (frame rail) you guys drilled into to the ground the battey. I am running a red top optima battery, and running a 2ga wire to the engine bay on the passenger side. My question is can I run the 2ga wire and bolt it directly to the distribution block (stock part on the passenger side) and use the old battery harness bolt it to the other stud on the distribution block to transfer power run to the alternator and starter, and use the other ground off the passenger side motor mount. Would this work, it would be so easy, has anyone tried this. Btw I am running an aftermarket stand alone accel dfi.

Thanks Mark Tisdale

i suggest going to a zero gauge wires and also ground it at the rear and run a ground wire up to the engine block as well... i havent done mine yet but i have heard people with the 2ga having alittle hard start sometimes... but make sure you ground it well... my alt wires and starter wire is both a 4ga and even to my power accessories... the thicker the less voltage drop in the length of the wire..

Yea I am going to try the 2ga since I got it for right now but I am definetly going to go to aleast 1 ga etc. yea I am going to ground it at the rear and using the stock harness ground it at the front. I think this may work, what do you all think!

thanks Mark

The 2 isn't going to work very good.
Ya need "0" or "00" to do it correctly.

Well, can I use the factory distribution block with the factory harness to the to the alternator and starter??? I am not worried about the size of the ga wire coming from battery. Has anyone used the stock stuff.

Thanks Mark

I am aware of the size of the gauge wire. But lets get on the subject about the distribution block and starter/alter harness. I am going to get a bigger ga wire, but want to know if the block will work.

All ya need to do is run the wire from the back to the starter and leave everything else as it is.

Re: Battery relocation "HELP INSIDE"

The power needs to go from the battery to the starter first and then to the alternator and distribution block from the starter. BTW, everyone is just trying to help with the gauge size, I bought the battery relocation kit from Summit that came with 2 ga. cable and my car would not start. It would crank over, but cranking the engine over with the 2 ga. from the back had so much voltage drop that there was not enough voltage to crank the engine and run the ignition at the same time. I don't remember the exact voltage required, but I think the ignition system needs 9 volts minimum to function, and with the 2 ga. cable I only had 7.8 volts at the front of the car while the engine was cranking (after fully charging the battery). I also used a brand new Optima red top. At first I didn't think there was any way possible the cable was too small so I spent days trouble shooting the ignition, even tried a new opti. Finally I switched to some welding cable which is 00 and it fired and ran with no problems. That 2 ga. cable is gonna cause you problems.
