Battery in the Back

Just ordered my stuff to do this job...

Can't wait to see the difference after I lift 40lbs off the front.

The cars been jumping higher sinse I swaped the K-member and U & L arms... amd hood. and those save me about 90-100 lbs together... now 40lbs should make her feel like an F-14 on takeoff.

Re: Battery in the Back

i have a battery in the back, of course it was a 2nd battery for my sound system, now im thinking of just taking the front battery out and just having the one in the trunk in there, and i didn't pay for any fancy brackets or anything, so to me its worth just having in the trunk.

I hope it pays off, I have a full race setup, Minus the rear seats wich I will remove soon , so it's hard for me to say street car,but this 40pounds off the front should pay off I hope.

I understand. Is there any negitives to this setup in street car? If not....then why not ,right?

Maybe length of battery cable or safety?

Thanks

Good luck.

Re: Battery in the Back

There seems to be mixed results, and it usually runs down to the thickness of the wire, and the installation method.

Re: Battery in the Back

I use 0 awg wire so im thinking i won't have any problems if i remove my front battery and just use the one that is in the trunk, plus i have the biggest yellow optima battery they have available in my trunk, the d31t or something like that. And i have a 200 amp alternator which is about to get an overdrive pulley on it.

I haven't tried it yet, so im not sure if it might have any type of delay in charging or anything. ive just always used 2 but i think the one under the hood is crapping out on me and i don't want to buy another.

only thing to do is try it out and see how it works out.

Re: Battery in the Back

What is moving the battery to the rear do? It isnt saving weight it is just adjusting the weight ratio in the car... Are you wanting to lift the tires off the ground or something?

Re: Battery in the Back

i would only consider removing the front battery because i already have one in the trunk, and to me at the moment, i only need one since i have no sound system so it is pointless to have 2, just some extra non needed weight.

and i guess it does lighten the front up a bit and add some weight to the rear, not sure if that really helps at all or not though.

Re: Battery in the Back

The biggest reason to move the battery to the trunk area is weight transfer.
Pulling that 40 lbs off the front and putting it in the rear on a RWD car helps the weight transfer to the rear and helps the car to hook up.

If you wanna do wheelies put 500 lbs of cement in the Ttop area and move the engine/tranny 2 feet toward the rear of the car.

Re: Battery in the Back

It also frees up some space in the engine bay, that could be used for something cool

Only downside is that most tracks require a kill switch on the outside of the car if the battery isn't in the stock location.

Re: Battery in the Back

That's why you buy an extra tail light One with a hole for the external kill switch and one without a hole for the street.
