Automatic Shifter trouble

The button on the shifter in my 95 Z28 can be near impossible to push in sometimes.... Even with the car running, and my foot to the floor on the brake.

It seems to get stuck in park after I have not driven the car in a week or so, and I have to darn near tear the shifter apart to get it out of park.

Any ideas what would cause the button to refuse to go down?

Thanks!

I don't believe it is worn down. The car only has 60,000 miles.

Could be that the BTSI (Brake Transmission Shift Interlock) solenoid is acting up. Try unplugging the electrical connector to it and see what happens. It is the black thing on the left in this pic, under the shifter plate. When unplugged, you will be able to shift out of park at any time when the key is ON, so beware.
