ASR, But no switch???

ASR, But no switch???
I have a 1997 camaro RS 5 speed, and my first question is, could you get traction control on stick cars? My car doesent have the ASR switch but, I was recently installing a new radio in my car and when I took the trim piece off there was two plugs, one went to the fog light switch, but the other wasn't hooked to anything What does the other plug go to? I was wondering if I might be able to get an ASR switch, plug it in, and have traction control. This is probably wishful thinking, but could someone tell me what it goes to.
Thnx,

That mystery plug is probably there because it is part of the complete wiring harness.
I would have to say that there is no chance of just installing the ASR switch and getting traction control as GM wouldn't have installed every other part of the system and controls and left out the control switch because who ever ordered the car didn't tick the traction control box and pony up the extra cashish

Thats what i was thinking, but my dad thought it would have been cheeper for gm to build all cars the same, and then just install the switch on the ASR cars. O whell, i think im gonna try to rig up a switch and just see what happens, i might post what happens... if anything does

Re: ASR, But no switch???
My 6-spd has ASR, so you could definitely get it with a manual trans.
If your car had ASR but didn't have the switch, the traction control would be always on (default), thus you wouldn't be able to spin the tires.
There's lots more to ASR than just the switch and wiring harness... you get a 2 rear wheel speed sensors rather than 1, extra components in the brake system to actuate the rear brakes, and a motor on the throttle cable to release (close) the throttle when appropriate. So unless your's has all that and someone removed the switch (and re-programmed the PCM to turn the ASR off), I'm sure you don't have ASR.

Re: ASR, But no switch???
For many years now GM has built all the main wiring harnesses with all of the connector ends(and wires) for all of the possible options. So if you look around you wiil find connector ends that are not connected to anything. However you do not have the rest of the system, ie. electonics boxes, pickups etc.
