Anyone here with a 96 Firebird (V6, Formula, Trans Am)...

I need your help! This may seem like an odd request, but I bought a power antenna assembly off a 96 Firebird (to convert my 93 Camaro's fixed mast antenna), and I need to buy the rubber bezel and fastening nut. I can get it at the dealership, but because they no longer produce them, I have to provide them with a VIN# off a 96 Firebird in order for them to give me one. Can anyone here help me? If so, please PM me!!!

That doesnt make any sense at all. If you have the part numbers you can just order the parts you need from wherever or order from Jason Cromer or Dal.

PLEASE post on the correct forum... a question like this doesn't belong in "LT1/LT4 Engine Tech". Moving to "General F-Body Tech & Info"......

No local dealerships carry the part(s) I'm looking for. The nearest one is Waco, TX. I'm having another part shipped out from MI, but the one I'm needing in Waco is a discontinued part or something of that nature. To have it transferred to the dealership that is more "local", they told me that they will require a VIN# from a 96 Firebird. Trust me, I think it's really stupid too, but if that's what it takes to get the parts I need, then that's what I'll (try to) do...

My bad, I didn't know any better. I've seen countless "NON-ENGINE" questions posted on that forum, that I merely assumed that although it said "engine tech", it was just a subforum directed @ 93-97 F-bodies. This is why I posted it there. I don't even bother browsing through the General F-body Tech section, and I figured my best chances at finding someone with a 4th Gen firebird would be in the LT-1 forum...

I doubt you see "countless" non-engine posts.... unless you consider an exhaust system to be non-engine.

I'm not singling you out.... I used to spend 100% of my time on these forums trying to help people. Now I spend 50% of it moving posts off the wrong forums. The same is true of the other moderators like Brent. There are stickies all over the place explaining what each forum is and is not for. Even the fields you need to click on to select a forum explain it very clearly.

This is off-topic to my thread altogether, but YES, while the exhaust is connected to the engine, so is everything else (including the VIN# plate), if you really want to argue that. It's a really odd analogy, but you're basically saying that since parts are related to the engine which makes it "engine tech", that's like asking a "lung" question in the "heart" forum. The heart & lungs play a unified role in keeping the body alive, so talking about lungs would be considered "heart-related". IMO, exhaust is exhaust. Transmission is transmission. Fuel System is Fuel System. Chassis is Chassis. ENGINE is ENGINE. If you ask about a fuel pump install, you ARE NOT asking an "engine" question, now are you? Sorry if I'm coming off as a jerk. I'm merely just making a point... If you ask me, if the "engine tech" is anything that includes what requires the engine to run, then you should rename your subforums to "POWERTRAIN TECH"...

If no one is willing to PM me their VIN#, could someone please send me their power antenna nut & bezel (I'll buy it), and you can order them new from the dealership. I really need these parts, and I can't get them without a VIN#!!!

You need to review the "rules".... if you have a problem with the actions of a Moderator, you are supposed to take it up privately in a PM... NOT start an arguement in a thread.

I'm trying to enforce the rules in as fair and balanced a way as I possibly can. I can easily relate "exhaust" to the engine. Fuel pumps can go both ways...its a bit harder to relate asking for a VIN number so you can order an antenna grommet. But that's just my humble opinion.

I made a decision..... and interestingly, 99% of the people who have their posts moved can live with it, and do. Since you apparently have a problem with my moderating, and chose NOT to handle it with a PM as you are supposed to do, I suggest you take it up with the Administrators.... JasonD and ChrisFrez. I'm just doing what they asked me to do, and using the guidleines they publish for ALL to read. Since you obviously don't agree with them, take up the arguement with them, in a PM.

Have a nice day

Re: Anyone here with a 96 Firebird (V6, Formula, Trans Am)...

We have broken up the forums to the best of our ability to provide an easy way for people who are looking for information to find what they need as efficiently as possible.

In this case, what you are posting has nothing do with with any engine technical aspects, so there is no reason to post it in an engine forum. Simply saying that others post-non engine topics in the engine forums is no reason to follow suit. Perhaps they are misinformed, but doing it on purpose casues more work for everyone involved and is against the idea of having multiple forums and against the idea of the site being a resouirce for everyone who is looking for information in an easy manner.

We trust the moderators who volunteer their time and efforts to act as a guide to the members here, and part of what we trust them with is to move topics to more appropriate forums when needed so that it is beneficial to everyone. It is nothing that needs to be argued against and no offense is intended. It is nothing personal, so please don't make it that way. If you disagree or wish to split hairs, please don't bother becuase arguing does not do any good for anyone. If you have a suggestion on how to make things better, we also have a specific forum for that.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
