Anyone do an LS1 Dash Swap?

Just bought a COMPLETE dash from a 97 (I read that 97 speedo cluster will work perfectly) for $120 and I've heard of guys doing the swap and since I've done a T56, T-top, Frontend, Taillight, PCM and every other swap, I'd figure I'll tackle one more before I call it quits.

My questions are:

1. Are 97+ A-pillars different?
2. Are the heater core/evaps or housings different?

I can get those at great prices also, but I'd like to know if i need them in 24 hours or less.

To anyone who helps, THANKS A BUNCH!

96speed did the swap in his car. Do you still have the 93 wiring harness or is it a 94+? if its the 94+ you should be fine, 93 harness has a tach filter that wont let that 97 gauge cluster read past 1500 rpm.

I don't understand why my harness would NOT work... The 94 cluster I have works perfectly... So I'm assuming this is incorrect. But there's only one way to find out.

When I had a V6 93 Camaro, I tried a cluster swap to a 94 Z28 and the tach did not work that way... maybe you're talking about the V6 harness... I don't know.

Lats year I put a 97 Trans Am gauge cluster in my 93, because it basically looks better. Started it up every thing looked fine, driving around the tack would go up to about 1500rpm and flutter. When I posted about it, they said it was because of my tach filter on my 93 engine harness. I still run my original 93 computer and harness, I didnt feel like cutting it out of the harness so I put the 93 one back in.

Oh thanks, for the advice, I did also change the 93 PCM and Harness for a 94/95 so that's probably why I didn't have the problem!

So hard keeping track of the changes!

93-02 TA and Bird pillars are the same as 97+ camaro pillars. The 93-96 camaro pillar is different all together.

Re: Anyone do an LS1 Dash Swap?

I have a 2000 dash and dash pad sitting on my shelf waiting to go in, in a month or two that I pulled from a car in a wrecking yard for $30 Still looking for the 97 Z28 gauges though... Like said above, the a-pillars are different... The HVAC housing on the firewall etc. is the same so you won't need to change that... I got the wiring harness and plug that goes to the gauge cluster as well... Post some pics of your swap afterwards and advice if you have any.

Re: Anyone do an LS1 Dash Swap?

I've done this swap. I did it the hard way and used the harness from a 97 along with the dash. I wanted the daytime running lights and the keyless entry of the newer car. It was very involved and I had to gut the interior to swap the harness. My saving grace was I had service manuals for both the 97 and 94. Without this, figuring out the wiring would have been a night mare.

If anyone wants it. I also have an analog firebird gauge cluster. A board member sold it to me as a 97 Camaro unit. I want to get my odometer reading right, but don't like the look of the firebird unit.

I'm still waiting to find a 97 gauge cluster so I can install the dash... I'll let you know when I get mine out.

I posted a thread a couple months ago asking if anyone knew if a Firebird gauge cluster would fit in a 97+ Camaro dash... You're saying it's a direct fit into the opening? What about the shape of the plug for the Firebird? Is it the same shape plug as the 97+ Camaros? I want a 97 Z28 cluster, but at the rate I'm going, it will be a year before I find one that I can win on ebay... I might settle for Firebird gauges since it's the same basic design.
