another steering column/VATS thread..HELP!

I didnt want o hi jack anyones thread so here is my own. I just bought a 95 z28 and the steering column is wrecked and the ignition cylinder is inop. My problem is, the owner had 2 different keys that he thought were the ignition keys and I have no way to tell which is which. So obviously I cant get a correct resistance to do a VATS bypass. Is there a way to find the correct pellet resistance without having a vin key cut? I need to replace the column and really dont want to have a key cut just so I can toss it with the old column. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

get the resistors for BOTH keys. They are dirt cheap, so it shouldn't be a big deal to do both and wiring them would be cake too.

Well, I bought an aftermarket ignition cylinderand took the keys that came with it to the dealer near me. I deal with them buying parts for the shop I work in. Talked to the parts guy I usually deal with and he looked up the original key for me and cut a pellet key to fit the new cylinder for $40. Not bad considering they normally charge $25 for the blank, $20 for the cut, and another $20 for looking up the pellet. No all I have to do is see if I can fix the column or get another one. Once I get the new key Iam going to do the VATS bypass so I dont have to worry about it again.

So, if you are just going to bypass VATS anyway, what the heck was the point of paying to cut a new key with the right pellet? If you bought a new cylinder, it should have come with a key (with no pellet of course).

Why didn't you just do that?
