another mileage question

I have a 94 with 373's , a4 trans that doesent engage the lockup in my converter, I get 15 mpg local driving and have gotten 19 on freeway, all driving was nice and easy, I was wondering if i changed my gears back to 273's and got my lockup to work, what the increase in mileage would be, I love the way the car drives now and was wondering if it would be worth the hassle, I have a spare rearend already set up and a different pcm ?

Fix the root of the problem. The non-locking converter. If it's a lock-up that isn't locking up, that would surely burn up the transmission/converter in no time.

The converter gives back how many rpm-maybe 250, and the car has a few years of non lockup driving on it and no trans issues, infact it shifts are very firm,

about 25-26 mpg on the highway. Even at 50/50 have never averaged under 20 mpg.
