Amsoil

Anyone here have any experience with the product ? I am a Mobil 1 user but have a open mind towards that and Royal Purple.

What I have heard about Ams was, the quiter operation, gas mileage improving by 2 gallons and , this one bends my mind, 25,000 oil change interval. Thanks for reading

Re: Amsoil

I know a guy at work that uses it in his jeep cherokee. The car has around 150k miles and he has used amsoil for 75k. He has only changed the oil 3 times since using it. He loves it and has had no problems going 25k miles between changes.

Re: Amsoil

I run it in my car in the engine, transmission, and rearend. Normally I run the Amsoil XL7500 which is good for 7500miles and I would change my filter every 3000 and change the oile every 6000, but this oil change I am running the regulat Amsoil which is good for 25000 or 1 year, right now I have about 4000 on it and am going to change my filter this week, but Im not sure how long Im gonna run it for. I know I wont run it for longer than 6 months but Im not sure how many miles I wanna use it for

Re: Amsoil

Yes I agree, 25K is a bit much. Maybe for a commercial truck, but no way a car. How is Rpyal Purple? I remember seeing a test of how it added 5-7 more HP when switched over to.

Re: Amsoil

I used Amsoil.
The ONLY benefit I found was that I could have it delivered to my door. THAT IS ALL.

I did 3 dyno runs before.. DRAINED ALL FLUIDS.. Replaced with AMSOIL All around.. Meaning Rear end, tranny and engine oil... Dyno again.. EXACT SAME..

MPG stayed consistant. No change.

I stay with Mobil 1. The most I have gone with it has been 13K miles.
I am now at 81K miles. I Just went to the track and ran a 13.3@106.94. Car is still bone stock.

Royal Purple is a local company. I know many performance shop owners and they all will not touch the stuff. It leaves a residue on your parts. Not a good thing.

25k might be too much, but why would you change the oil every 2,500 miles. Seems like a gross waste of money and time to me.

Re: Amsoil

dude you had better stop changing your oil that soon! Only change it often if you're using dinosaur juice. If you're running synthetic, the oil isnt even at max lubricating effiency until around 1k miles old. A current study on an LS1 camaro and major syn oil brands show that -so far- mobil 1 has shown to protect for over 12k miles with a regular filter change of 6-8k miles and topping off the the engine when it gets low.

Furthermore, its proven that changing the oil every 3-4k miles or when the change oil light comes on can cause more wear to an engine than 6-8k old oil. Sure the oil is jet black and stinks to high heaven, BUT it has been proved through many oil anylsis tests that it protects much better than brand new oil.

So If you REALLY love your car and want it to last a very long time, use a respectable synth oil, like mobil 1 or castrol and wait at least 9k miles with a filter change every 4-5k.

Re: Amsoil

so im supposed to believe that changing my oil between 2500 and 3000 miles is more harmful than changing my oil every 9000 miles with a filter change half way beweeen that? so why dont you show me this study on ls1 engines, and show me how its proven to the fact ....and ill give it a complete and thorough studying....thanks "dude"

Re: Amsoil

sure thing. Let me find out the link. Hes taking donations for oil anylsis samples every 1k miles and only retireing the oil after 1 year of use or when it get contaminated beyond the factory specs for adequate lubrication. So far they got the Mobil one up to like 18k i think and retired it after 1 year of use.

The cool thing is he's volunteering his own z28 for the cause. I'll get on finding the site though, because it made a believer out of me.
