Aluminum cleaning and engine bay
Aluminum cleaning and engine bay
I'm rebulding my engine and have everything all apart...I'm trying to clean all the brackets and aluminum pieces...a lot of harsh cleaners can discolor aluminum...is there something that you guys are using that can help clean off aluminum a little better? I'm using the gm parts injector cleaner and mineral spirits but it doesn't seem to get it spotless...maybe I'm too picky. I haven't tried pressure washing anything but thought about hitting the crossmember and tranny area w/ the pressure washer....the car had the bad intake oil leak and everything is coated.
What do you guys use to clean up your parts and engine bay?

Lots of engine degreaser & a pressure washer for the engine bay itself.
For any parts which are removed, a bead blaster works great on aluminum. I recently had my intake and thottle body off and bead blasted them. They came out very nice!
Just call a local machine shop and ask how much to clean them up with their bead blaster. Or better yet, if you have any friends who run a machine shop, bring them a 12 pack to let you use it!
