I'm not sure if I have this right... I had a 97 RS for so many years the 94's dash indicators are really foreign. I have a light in the middle of my speedo that looks like a guy sitting down with a big ball in his lap.

I'm assuming that's the airbag indicator, but which side would it be? Driver or passenger? What type of failure does it indicate?

The 94 Camaro Owners Manual shows a different dash layout. Maybe the Canadian dash is different than the US dash. But....

The "guy sitting down" (inside the tach, between the 2 and the 3) sounds more like the seat belt reminder light, at least based on the pictures in the 94 Camaro Owner's Manual.

The air bag warning is the words "AIR BAG" right under the 120 kph marker on the speedo. That warning lamp is just telling you there is an electrical problem with the air bag system. Does not pin it down to a specific item. The dealer would have to read the codes from the air bag module to tell what the problem is.

Hey thanks for moving and responding to my post. It's definitely under the 120 km mark in the speedo, just above the center where the needle is. According the manual you linked, my guy with the ball in his lap is in the same place as the air bag.

So it would require a dealer scanner to identify the code, not something like LT1Edit?

LT1_Edit isn't a "scanner". Its PCM programming software. But it doesn't matter. Most "scanners" will only read the PCM (powertrain control module), not the air bags controller (DERM/SDM) or the Electronic Brake/Traction Control Module (EB/TCM). You can read the DERM/SDM and ABS with a dealer tool like the Tech-2. I suspect Snap-On may have a high end bi-directional scanner. But not with your basic OBD-I or OBD-II scanner.

15 Passenger initiator circuit resistance high

I'm trying on google...it's tough from work with all the policy violations from the firewall

 

He's not asking where to "place" an air bag light. He has the air bag trouble light illuminated on his dash panel, and he was asking if the problem is on the drivers side air bag, or on the passenger side air bag. A scan of the computer that controls the air bags told him it is a problem with a sensor on the passenger side.

 

Doing a quick search, there is only one good reference to the code that had any info attached and it was for a Chevy/Daewoo compact vehicle. But according to a diagram in the factory manual the "initiator" is the resistance circuit in the airbag assembly that that fires it.

 

Thanks for the info. So i'm not at all good at wiring stuff. How can I find the resistance circuit in the air bag assembly. Obviously we're not talking about a fuse here...

 

Pull the fuse. Get a wiring diagram and ring passenger airbag circuit. Make sure you disconnect airbags first. Clean and re-rack impact sensor and air bag connectors, re-install fuse. If you still have the fault change the airbag.

 

Tests/Procedures: 1. Key off for 1 minute.

2. Remove the 15 amp AIR BAG fuse.

3. Disconnect the passenger side air bag connector.

4. Install a 2 ohm resistor across the wire harness terminals.

5. Install the AIR BAG fuse.

6. Key on, check the SIR lamp status.

7. Normal condition, the SIR lamp flashes 7 times, then goes out.

8. If the SDM is not satisfied with the circuit, then the lamp will flash 7 times and stay on with a current code 15.

9. If the lamp does stay on, check the White/Black and the Dark Green/White wires back to the SDM, pins A6 and A5.

I would have sent the gm diag chart but it is way to confusing sometimes. Hope this works for you. I will keep checking the site for updates and any other questions
