Advice on removing engine?

I'm removing what's left of the engine from my 94 camaro Z28 and I've got everything disconnected but the starter, the a/c compressor, the optispark, the harmonic balancer, and the tranny. I plan on disconnecting those things and chaining the block to my small shop crane and pulling it out, then bolting it to an engine stand. Any advice on the removal process? Also the reason I'm taking it apart is because the shop I took it to said coolant was leaking into the oil and vice versa. There's no damage but how would I go about cleaning it? Or should I take it to a shop and have it done professionally?

Re: Advice on removing engine?

Pulling the engine from the top with as much as you have removed shouldn't be that big a deal.

Did you find the source of the coolant leak? Normally this would be from either from a blown head gasket or damage to the block. Doing the work yourself, in my opinion is going to relate to your comfort and experience. If the head gasket was the issue, and you have a comfort level with tearing down the engine, the go for it. If the cause was not found, or the comfort level is low, a shop would be the best bet.

It was the head gasket. I'm comfortable with what I've taken apart so far, it's just when I get to the crankshaft and pistons and the rings, etc, I don't think I'm so comfortable. I think I'll do some research and continue when it gets warmer out.
