Adjustable plates in the borla really do make a difference!

I was convinced that the plates in my borla exhaust only changed the sound levels and did not affect the performance very much as the muffler is supposedly high flow.. After driving around for most of a year with the open plate I made a plate with a 1.5" hole. I thought it sounded pretty good and now I can talk to other people in my car when I'm driving.

Today I got into it with another car and almost lost. Didn't win but almost lost. It was the first time I had gotten on it since I put the new plate in and if I would have known I was going to lose that much performance I would never have done it. I was a huge difference and I'm definately going back to the open plate.

Just a little info for all you people out there who were wondering.

i doubt it. i bet because it's louder fully open it just makes you think its faster, i think with the smaller plates in like the 1.5 inch feels like the car pulls harder then fully wide open...just my thoughts on it

Add a Borla to a VEH w/ LT's and an ORY, it probably helps add soem backpressure. That will assist in some TQ movement.I think mine's full open. I'll have to check it when I go home next week...I think I'll just stick a snake in there to feel around. Don't feel like messing w/ rusted bolts. When I'm at part throttle the sound comes from the left pipe (Muffled) when I step it on it more, I hear it instantly come from the right side. It's kind of loud, soemwhat. I has a nice tone to it, tho..

Normally I would agree with you. And that may be the case on a stock or slightly modified car. With the open plate I can downshift into 3rd at 70mph and the rear end slides out, with the small plate it does not. Also it just doesn't pull as hard up top with the smaller plate.

I trust the dyno more than your butt. A buddy of mine and I went to the dyno after installing a Borla and found the middle plate made the most power, and it was negligible.

I can't argue with that. But as long as I think its faster it's worth it right?!!!

But honestly I know that it shouldn't make a difference which plate is in it but for some reason the car drives different with the different plates in it.

It reves faster and seems to pull harder on the top end and is more responsive with the open plate. With the small plate I made, the clutch engagement is smoother starting out and in reverse. I have the spec stage 3 clutch and chatter is definately an issue so even a little bit less is very noticeable.

I have an e-borla plate in my car. There is no difference in performance, just the amount of noise.

Thats what I was afraid of. Just needed one more person to tell me I was wrong. Time for a few more go fast parts.

But it there is less clutch chatter with a smaller plate.

Give me your input on my other thread about upgrading to a bigger cam from the hotcam. http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=365559

I just remembered I know have 295 tires on the back instead of 245's. This would account for not losing traction into 3rd.

I'd personally get a custom cam. I'm ditching my 230/236 in favor of a custom cam.
