Adding T-tops to a 3rd gen hardtop??`
Re: Adding T-tops to a 3rd gen hardtop??`
Third gens are set up WAY different than a 4th gen. The supprt bar for the T-tops is not already moled into the body. The car has to be jacked up, supported and then the whole top cut out of it. The support bar has to be welded into the center of the open roof, etc. Its a pain in the ***. I did it to an IROC I had. I ended up paying an interior guy to do, because my car almost cracked in half becasue I didn't have it supprted right. Its a pain. If you want it done, take it to aprofessional, don't try it at home.

I had it done to my 1992 GTA back in 1994. I went to a salvage yard and had the roof cut off of a wrecked car that had t-tops. If I remember correctly...I only paid $150. for the roof and the labor to have it cut off. I purchased all of the interior trim from my local GM dealership. The plastic roof panels were purchased used from Camaro Heaven in New Hampshire. I had a local body shop do all of the work for me, and I had the entire car re-painted under the GM warranty. The entire job came out absolutely gorgeous! I have some polaroids...that was way before digital camera technology.
Forgot to mention that the entire body and chassis were reinforced. Bottom line...leave this job for the pros!
