Are Accel products prone to failure?

Compared to OEM stuff, how does Accel stack up?

From threads I have observed, about the same as any other brand.

I do know for a fact that a msd coil will eat the "electrodes" and rotor button element on a stock opti cap.

Really? I wonder why mine has lasted 7+ years, then. It's a myth, IMHO.

Rotors and caps normally wear as a function of their operation.

For an LS1, stick with the stock coil packs. You will see no gains for the money spent. You'll just get pretty red coils.

Rob back when I first got the 94 the first thing I did was slap a msd coil on as the stock one was bad. Then after several moths (6-7) the car startted missing from idle to about 3k rpm. So as advised on here I pull the opti and opened it up. Sure enough the rotor was black and the "electrodes on the cap showed signs of extreme wear. This could have been from the opti still being stock on a 140k mile car I dont know. I do know that I put a msd cap and rotor on and when I built the engine 25k miles later the cap and rotor looked brand new.

Im not trying to say your wrong and im right. I am just stating my experience with a stock cap and rotor and a msd coil.

I hear what you are saying, but the results are hardly conclusive. That scenario might have happened even if you did not put the new coil on (especially on an opti with that many miles). There just is no proof to the claim. Before and after comparisons/evaluations would have to be made before any conclusions could be drawn.

I took the opportunity to look at my opti when I was rebuilding my engine. This was 30k miles or more after running an MSD Blaster coil and 6A. I saw no signs of abnormal cap and rotor wear. This was not the original opti, but one that had been installed maybe 40k miles earlier.
