ac evap sensor. where under the dash is it?

96 firebird. searched the net and the car for hours... cannot find this &*^$%$ sensor. I have a 94 PCM and motor that I installed into a 96 and this is the last of the wiring issues I need to address.

Its supposed to be under the dash on the passenger side. I have the 3 wire connector but no where to plug it in???

anyone have a picture of it?

=====================EDIT========================= ====================

for those swaping motors and/or have trouble with this sensor here is the information you need.

The sensor P/N is GM# 52458970 or ACD# 15-71978. my cost was $31

The sensor is located under the passenger side to the left of the blower motor on the panel the contains the heater core.
there is a bracket to hold the sensor.

The 3 wire connector plugs into the sensor module mounted to the base of the heater core housing. There is a wire for the EVAP temperature probe that leads into the evaporator core housing that is inserted into the evaporator to measure its temperature. your a/c will not work without this probe. If you have MALF 71 or DTC 71 this is the sensor you need to be looking for.

I was lucky enough to have spent hours searching for something that ended up not being on my car.... don't know why it was not there but ----edited------. hopefully you will not to go through what I did If you have any questions just ask.

The plug from the PCM harness? Doesn't it only have 2 wires? Look on the HVAC housing under the RH side of the dash. There should be a place for you to plug it in.

The connector I'm talking about has three wires. blue black and gray. its labeled "a/c evap temp sensor" on your webpage. http://shbox.com/1/harness6.jpg. I cannot find a place to plug it in

I am getting DTC 71 for the a/c evap sensor.

Hmm, mine only has two wires. Anyway, it should be somewhere around where I said. Just gauge the location by how long the wires are. It can't be farther than they will reach.

according to your web site this is a 3 wire connector. http://www.shbox.com/1/harness_connector_faces.htm on the AC temp sensor connector. ground, 5v ref, and output to PCM.

after more research it appears that this sensor is missing from my donor car..... probably the reason I cannot find where to connect this *&%*&%&* connector and the cause of all of my frustration.

You should take a picture of this connection and update your webpage for those of us who swap motors and end up missing parts

BTW your web page has been very helpfull... except for this issue

I am somewhat disappointed by your suggestion to try and search for the connector... I'm the size of an NFL line backer and getting under the dash is quite difficult to damn near physically impossible for me. Lucky for me a friend showed me what I needed to know.

I was looking at my own picture of the connector in the link you posted above. I guess the 3rd wire is hidden (but you are right, it does say 3 wires in the chart ). It's been a while since I have been under there. Next time, I'll consider taking a pic.

Can you post a picture of where that single connector plugs into? It won't let me access it through your flickr account. Although it does show the picture as to where the box is mounted on the heater core cover. I hear you on the frustrated part. It's like finding a needle in a haystack.

I'm referring to the single prong connector in this photo that is dangling by itself over the floor http://www.flickr.com/photos/6043330...n/photostream/ I believe your stating that the probe is inserted into the condensor itself correct? Do you have a photo of this? So lost here. thx

I would surmise it is a probe that is inserted into the fins of the evaporator (not condenser).

#3 is the evaporator. http://shbox.com/1/hvac_vacuum.gif

Ok, that makes it a little more understandable...I was looking for an input of some sort that the probe would clip into the condenser based off of his edited comment ("There is a wire for the EVAP temperature probe that leads into the condenser housing that is inserted into the condenser to measure its temperature"). But from what your saying I just insert the probe into any of the fins on the evaporator?

And I'm assuming there's no other way to do this other than removing the heater core cover, heater core, and support housing. Just to plug in a little probe into the fins of the evaporator core.
