AC Compressor Problem

The AC compressor in my 98 T/A is not engaging when I turn the AC on. I have replaced the relay in the fuse box with no results. Any help is appreciated. Thx.

Is there enough refrigerant in the system?

Yeah, he's right, your system probably needs refrigerant. There's a pressure switch that stays open if the system isn't charged properly.

Re: AC Compressor Problem

not to jack your thread, but my a/c is barely working. While driving, it is noticably cooler than at idle. When I come to a stop its like the A/C turn off leaving the fan on. It takes 45 min of driving to cool my car down. About a year ago, I had the system recharged, so it should not need that again. Whats the problem?

Re: AC Compressor Problem

Yeah, probably low freon too. You could have a leak. Or it could be the orifice tube is clogging too, it reduces the pressure to the evaporator. Mine was clogged completely with metal chips.

Re: AC Compressor Problem

alright I went to a friends house and we hooked up the little gauge and checked my refrigerant and it is compeletely empty! It was working fine one day then completely empty a week later, this means I have some sort of really bad leak...ugh...
