AC clutch not engaging.
AC clutch not engaging.
This is on my 2000 Camaro V6 3800 with just over 98K miles on it.
I thought my compressor clutch was engaging but just not pushing cold air, however today I decided to take a look at it again.
I let the car run for a few mins (it was already @ temp cause I had went somewhere) I also had someone try holding the RPMs around 2K. But the entire time the compressor clutch never kicked in.
I've searched around the net trying to find things, and about all I have found is that if the system is low on refridgerant it will not allow the compressor to kick in. But they are also saying it supposidly sends a code to the PCM but does not register the SES light.
I hooked my code scanner into the diag port but it came back with 0 codes.
I also tried swapping the horn relay into the AC Compressor relay since it used the same relay. I checked the fuses (under hood and in the cab) couldnt find anything blown. All electrical works on my car including cruise control.
So now I'm @ the point where I'm trying to find out why the clutch doesnt engauge since I'm guessing this would explain why there is no cold air.
In my Chilton manual it says that the 3800 V6 doesnt cycle it changes its stroke to match system demand. (not really sure what that means). But the guide also says in order to acurately check and charge the system the clutch must be engaged.

Re: AC clutch not engaging.
search this forum for other a/c problems. there's a pcm fuse you can pull to reset it and see if it works. if it doesn't you either have no/low refrigerant, a bad sensor, or a bad compressor
