ABS Plastic Sheets and HAC and Radio Openings

I am looking to replace the H/AC controls and the radio and replacing them with gauges and switches. Where can I get some sheets of ABS plastic for this? And does anyone know the size of the openings for radio and the heating controls? The car is not at the house right now so I cannot go out and measure.

Thanks!

I used thin gage aluminum on my Formula stereo opening. You can get it at many "chain" hardware stores. Painted it to match the dash plastic. Looks close to stock. I've done the same thing with a friend's 97 SS, including the radio, A/C panel and the holes where the switches were.

Thanks Fred. That is probably the cheapest solution too. The cheapest ABS plastic I found was over $50 shipped on-line.

Two more questions for you:

1. It looks like you converted from an M6 to an auto. If so, how did you close up the hole in the floor for the shifter?

2. How did you physically mount your tach? Is the dash plastic strong enough to screw into?

Thanks!

The plate for the radio opening either needs to be a rectangle, and glued to the radio surround from behind, or a somehwat irrugularly shaped plate, screwed into the stock screw holes that were used to hold the radio in the dash. Unfortunately, those holes are not in a flat plane, and require shims of various thickness to put the face of the plate flush with the bezel. With the 97 SS, the dash had been fully gutted for a cage, so I could only glue the plates to the bezel.

Eventually I would like to move all the switches from my nitrous system, electric trans cooler fan, and some other stuff to the radio blanking plate. The nitrous panel is in the driver's door map pocket right now.

On the other questions:

1. M6 to TH400. There is a thick gage aluminum plate bolted over the original M6 shifter opening, and the B&M Pro-Ratchet shifter is bolted to that plate. The two switches in front of the shifter are for a line lock, and the Gear Vendor O/D.

2. The tach is mounted over the louvers for the vent. The screws go down through the louver openings, into the more solid plastic that is under the vent. The wires also go through the louver openings. The entire tach could be removed with no visible indication that it was ever there.

I'll post a couple pics in the morning.
