ABS Inop and now Brake Light
ABS Inop and now Brake Light
So first my ABS Inop came on about a week ago and sometimes the brake gets real soft or stiff, stiff especially on start up after its been sitting for a while. Last night my brake light came on and stayed on, so what's the deal?
for the abs light:
repair shops can scan the code for you. usualy its one of the wheel speed sensors. easy fix.
for the "brakes" light
1. un even pressure between front and rear circuts
2. low on fluid
3. check your pads. (if worn out, more fluid will be in caliper, less in resivor

Ok I'm pretty sure it's the brake pads, specifically the front right one. I'm going to change them out and see if the light will go away. To be honest the abs light doesn't worry me, I'm just trying to get rid of the brake light.
Ok also my front right brake has been sticking, the lug nuts were hot and I just replaced the pads today and lubed the Caliper Guide Pins real well and checked everything, it looked ok.
Got my all my front pads replaced and the brake light went away, the ABS Inop is still there but that annoying Brake light went away! The brake pedal is a tad soft so I guess there might be some air in the lines but I can bleed that out. Gonna do the rears tomorrow...

After your next ride compare the lug nuts temperature between the 2 front wheels. Just in case it wasn't the caliper sticking on the guide pin and actually is the right front hub going bad, If it's the hub then that might be affecting the right front ABS sensor and causing the ABS controller to light the "ABS inop" warning.
Good Luck

Did you check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder BEFORE you had the front pads replaced (appears you had someone else do the pads)? Whoever worked on your car would have compressed the front caliper cylinders, forcing the fluid back into the reservoir. That might have got some of the air bubbles out, IF the fluid was low and had allowed air into the lines. If you had the brakes done by a shop, they should have inspected the calipers and the rubber hoses, as a minimum.
So I am now working on the rear brake pads and have encountered a quandary. The piston seems to be sticking out further on the left due to the parking brake... So do I need to realign the parking brake and if so, link me to an instructional page?
