about the functioning hood induction on the late 2nd gens
i have a 79, that has a non working air intake on the hood. i learned that the later model of that style has a functional intake! would it bolt right up to mine? or will it be all jacked up?
And it had the cowl flaps that were vaccuum actuated, IIRC.
But, I don't remember there being any special ducting under the hood to make it functional as a cold air intake.
This is the best pic I could find on a quick search - it almost looks like the air cleaner seals against the hood, but I don't know or remember.

Pic is from this site - all sorts of cool stuff here.

The real trick is figuring out how the factory wired the intake to open at WOT - I.E. where did it get it's electrical signal from ?

As that picture shows, the factory air cleaner is supposed to be "sealed" up against the hood, when closed. The air "flaps" were operated by a little electric motor, taking power from pretty much "anywhere"
(I'm sure there was a factory designated circuit, but in case that ever crapped out, you just need a 12V source from somewhere). The switch was operated off the gas pedal, as far as I can remember
(my '81 Z28 had functioning flaps, but that was a few years ago now!
).
It's kinda neat sitting behind in the driver's seat, punching the throttle, and watching those flaps open!
I don't know how "effective" they truly are though ... probably more of a "show" than "go" item??

well my friend has a 3rd gen that has the hood flaps that open when he nails it. but its just vacume. the suction from the intake basicly opens them flaps. but im just askin about a hood that the scoop is an actual air scoop. meaning, the air will really flow through it! lol. but if i cant find a hood, i may just cut that section out so that air can go through. any one done this maybe???
