I see you mention the A4 will take more abuse, from what I've always read the M6 will take way more abuse before breaking. Personally I think the repairs from banging gears will more likely come from the auto tranny.

The LS1 can be beat, I always heard that a stock LS1 was compariable to a moded LT1, well From the stock LS1's I 've driven, I must say its just not so. I am looking right now for one, and they all seem so slow compared to my heavy vert.

A4's are great for the strip. M6's are great for the highways and road course style racing. Both kick a$$ and with average drivers are very close in ET. But the M6 will trap and dyno a tad higher. But for 1/4 mile raceing or stop light to stop light the A4 will hold it's own stock and have the advantage after it's properly stalled. But M6's will always have the advantage on the highways or road courses.

Now LT1 vs LS1. The LS1 has about 40-50 more RWHP stock for stock and is very responsive to mods. LS1's have some cases of piston slap and oil consumption. The LT1 is cheaper to buy, mods are less expensive and insurance is less expensive. The LT1 has had natorious problems with optispark. They both have thier followers and naysayers. Both can be beat. Both can win. LT1's need to outmod and or outdrive an LS1 to win because they give up some rwhp and trap less. Just like LS1's have to outmod or outdrive new cobras to win. Same scenario since the 03/04 Cobras dyno more and trap more.

But if I had to vote I would go LS1 assuming money to buy the car isn't a huge issue. Getting high 12's with just a lid and catback is a beautiful thing. It's also not uncommon for A4 LS1's to be able to get high 11's with just bolt-ons and sticky tires. Not selling the LT1 short though. They are monster engines with massive potential. They sound meaner and take to spray a little better too (or so I heard).

M6's last longer, because they can handle 400+ hp from the factory... however the abuse is simply transferred to the weak 10 bolt which is just as expensive to fix as a [auto] tranny would be... but 10 bolts only break if you are driving the m6 like you stole it

i agree..they both have there real advantages/disadvantages. I hate when people are like "to bad its an auto"..especially kids in my school..and to be honest with you, there's probably no 16-18 year old..that can shift as fast as an auto..Maybe there are..but not in my school probably. But if you can drive a stick good..than more power to ya..I just hate when kids who have never driven an manual, tell me how they would kill me if they were in a 6 speed..and i was in my'n..and its like "dude..you cant even drive a stick...shut up". So yea, both of them have there advantages. i love the idea that you can run 4:10's in the rear with the 6 speed, and still get awesome gas mileage. So yea..both have there ups, and downs...

PS- The LS1 is wayyyy better....
