A4 vs M6
A4 vs M6
Ok my brother in law and I have been argueing nonstop on this issue so I wanted to get some other opinions to back (me) up
. He says a M6 is faster than my A4
and I continue to tell him 20 years ago I would agree but today no way! How could someone manually shift faster or harder than a computer controlled A4 with a shift kit? maybe I am stuck in my own little world but I can't imagine it. And one more thing to add my A4 will bang the gears all day but if you continue that in a M6 your going to be looking at some expensive repairs (mis a gear/ burn up the clutch). A4 ALL THE WAY
Please post your opinion

Ive seen topics like this before, A4 vs. M6. They usually all agreed that both transmissions have thier ups and downs. As far as shifting goes im with you on that one, i think a A4 with a shift kit would be better then a M6, just my .02 cents.
stock for stock im pretty sure the m6 is faster [varying by driver of course] because it keeps the engine in the powerband, whereas when an a4 shifts there is a larger difference in ratios between gears. Also from a dig is where an a4 shines, while the 6 speed will shine from a roll.
oh and if he means faster as in higher top speed, he IS correct.

The A4 does shift faster, but the M6 has less power train loss and more gear ratios which help it stay in the power band. I don't know if a shift kit would make up the difference.
The thing most people don't take into account is this does not automatically mean M6 is faster then A4 because it takes lots of skill at shifting to keep up with an auto, and almost every person that has even driven a manual claims to be skilled.

a m6 with the best clutch you can buy vs. a a4 with anything above a 2800 stall aftermarket converter the a4 will win. Get that converter up to something higher like say a 4400 and the a4 will kick ***. I have a 3600 and i would beat a m6 with a real good clutch all day, but stalls arent cheap. an auto with a stall is the way to go.
I'm gonna say it depends on what kind of driving/racing you do. For autox I'd take the M6, but for strip I'd go A4 with a stall. Since the majority of people just like to cruise in our cars I'd say pick which you like. I hate when people say "to bad its an auto" or "it would be so much better if it was 6 speed" All I say to them is "why?" and they say "its faster" and I reply with "whys that? they are the same cars" and they just go "..."

I'm waitin on my LS1 to find me....
