Where is the memory retained for the odometer's mileage reading? Is the memory retained in the PCM or the speedometer cluster itself?

Mileage info is retained in the cluster. I tested another car's oil pressure circuit when I thought the gauge was bad by using mine and the mileage was different so that's how I know.
