The B4C didn't really have any more horsepower than a stock Z-28. Just some suspension goodies and I think an oil cooler or something.

In 1997 they made 253 B4C "Special Service Package" Camaros. In essence, it is a Z28 without the badges. Same 285HP as any other LT1.

An "Interceptor" is a Ford. GM doesn't call their cars that. A B4C is a debadged Z28, like Injuneer and Dave89IROC said. It might have a few more wires in it for police accessories.

Why do people always assume that cop cars are super-fast? Cop cars have the same exact motors as their civilian counter-parts.

This really bugs me whenever people try to explain to me how fast PI Crown Victorias are.

yeah, they are all the same. In case of cruisers or bigger vehicles they get the heavy duty cooling and towing packages, so they have more current for prolongued use of the searchlights, roof lights, radios and all the accesories and more load capacity. In the case of Camaros I think they were even sawing off the shotguns to they could fit in the upright rack inside the car.

The difference is that if we put our feet down we get expensive tickets, while they have a badge and can step on the gas with any excuse, that's why they look faster.

Cops have trump cards though, I see cops with chargers, corvettes as well as the crown vics. Hamilton county has at least 1 vette I know of. The crown vics arn't bigger faster bader they are stock motors with a computer tune. Thats all. Think about it... would the police force spend money on replacement performance parts for their everyday cruisers? No department could afford to do it thats why they have helicopters

Re: 97 camaro Police Interceptor

I just want to add my story about a 1997 CAMARO I purchased at a NY state Troop auction. Well I believe while it was in service they had a supercharger system on it. I say this because it was the ONLY lt1 I ever seen with 3 threaded holes on the crank pulley and there was also other evidence of electrical connections having a splice added here and there and other odd mount points not being used when I won it plus my cars automatic transmission case was split all the way around the bell housing no way a stock 285hp would do that. So I beg to differ about them “not adding anything”…..

Re: 97 camaro Police Interceptor

While the 93-95 crank pulleys did not have the three threaded bolt holes, they were common on 96/97 models, and could be used for pulling the pulley, as opposed to using a claw puller on the earlier years. Shoebox documents this difference in his cam removal procedure.
