96Z fuel pump/sending unit replace

Ok, guys tell me if you have to drop the muffer in order to drop fuel tank for replacement of the fuel pump/sending unit on a 96Z, I don't have the tools for cutting and rewielding the pipes, It the muffer has to come out then I have to take to some one else and pay the labor.

Thanks Clean Old-School

to replace a fuel pump on these cars the muffler/rear need to be dropped to drop the gas tank..

although many have gone the "trap door" route were you cut a hole in the trunk to access the fuel pump...alot of people do it this way

yes i believe the muffler needs to removed in order to have enough space to drop the tank, atleast last time i looked under there, the muffler was included in my tally of things to remove to drop the tank.

your other option is the trapdoor method, cutting a hole from inside the car to access the fuel pump. do a search in this forum for fuel pump replacement or trapdoor method and that will give you all the information you need.

I've HEARD that the filler neck is a big PITA. Just a heads up. I did the trap door and I thank god everyday that I did it that way. I can have my pump assembly out in about 10 min. If you rig your bucket for a Walbro, like I did, it comes in handy to fix little mistakes you may have made. Just my .02.
