I've got a '96 Camaro SS. Is this year SS considered rare? Or will it be years from now? Any comments appreciated.

 

I have a '96 ss also. They may not be 'rare' because of the number made (2410), but I like to think of mine as semi-rare because there was only 264 convertibles. Then when you factor all of the other options like color, oil cooler, torsen rear end, syn lube, etc I can get the number of cars just like mine VERY low.

Another thing that I think will pay off several years later is the fact that mine is completely stock/original. When I look at old cars I like them to be either modded to the max with chrome everything, wild paint, turbo/nitro etc or completely original.

I would like someone else to chime in here and let us know just how low a production number needs to be in order to be rare.

 

I never bought mine as an investment so I don't expect it to be gaining value any time soon.
I do believe that the 96-97 SS's are rare and I secretly hope someday they will be worth more. The 96's mainly because it was the return of the SS and the 97's because of the 30th year of the Camaro.
Mine is one of 192 that is black, 6 speed, t-tops, and Bilstein suspension.
By the time the run of the Camaro ended in '02, I think SS's made were well over 10,000 made each year. Obviously not as rare as the early ones.

 

In relation to other years of the SS, 96 was either the year they built the fewest (fourth gen.) SSs or second fewest.

 

I think an LT1 SS is much more of a rare vehicle than the LS1 cars. I see the LS1 SS cars all the time, but rarely see a real LT1 SS. So, I'd hang on to the car.

My dream 4th gen would be a '97 30th Anniversary LT4 SS, but I'd take a LT1 too.

I'd like to max my current ride out with mods and then one day get a 30th and keep it completely stock. Best of both worlds!

 

96 SS aren't super rare.. but they certainly aren't common. Especialy up here. Only 147 Canadian ones
