'95 acceleration squeak

Hello,
For the past week or so i have been hearing squeaking coming from my engine, it looks like its coming from one of the belts, when i accelerate from stop. at first it only squeaked when i went over 80 mph but over the past month it has been happening at slower speeds until recently it squeaks from 0 mph. it was hard to pin point where the noise was coming from but when at idle i can hear minor ticking coming from the directions of one of teh belts it seems.

I could use any input anyone might have before taking it to one of my mechanics who im pretty sure is gonna find a way to screw me, no homo.

Thanks

V6 or V8? Manual or auto trans? The V8 automatics are know for a belt squeal, particularly when it shifts.

One way to determine if its a belt (the V8 only has one belt), is to run it without the belt and see if the squeak is still there. Could be the idler pulley.

Probably just needs a serpentine belt. I would start there. And I wouldn't pay someone to do it, unless your wrenching skills are nonexistent. If that doesn't do the trick, look into the idler pulley. Either way, I'd tackle the job yourself and save some cash.

Re: '95 acceleration squeak

Hello, sorry for the late feedback, I finally found out how to check my created threads.

anyway I got a synthetic oil change a couple days after my problem and now the squeak is mostly gone, minimal squeaking at high speeds.

To clarify I have a '95 Z28 LT1 Automatic with everything stock except a replaced transmission at around 80k miles. Thanks for the posts. Would it be a good idea to check up on anything to prevent future squeaking?
