'93 Z28 E brake light and ABS light on
'93 Z28 E brake light and ABS light on
My son just bought a '93 Z28. The emergency brake cable was broke. The emergency brake light and the ABS light were on when he bought the car. I replaced the emergency brake cable, and both lights are still on. I thinking that the ABS system is bad and thats why the ABS light is on. Why would the E brake light stay on, could it be a bad sensor or is the ABS causing this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Re: '93 Z28 E brake light and ABS light on
The "BRAKE" light comes on for two reasons 1) e-brake is on; 2) the switch on the side of the ABS unit, where the two lines from the master cylinder connect, indicates a difference in hydraulic pressure between the front and rear braking lines. Could be low fluid, air in a line, or a leak. I suspect that once the "BRAKE" light comes on, the ABS will not work, but I don't know that for sure.
The brakes need to be checked for fluid level, or other problems.

The brake master cylinder is full. I"ll bleed the brakes and I"ll check the switch to see if it's working. Thanks
Re: '93 Z28 E brake light and ABS light on
The differential pressure switch can get stuck. Those of us with line locks in the front braking system run into the problem once in a while. The solution is to get it in an open parking lot, and do a really hard stop. That will usually release a stuck switch.
But if you don't have a line lock, the question would be why did the switch get stuck.

Re: '93 Z28 E brake light and ABS light on
I tried stomping on the brakes 4 or 5 times while parked in the driveway, I'll try it in a parking lot next. I replaced the E brake sensor, but the E brake light is still on. When you turn the car off and then restart it, the E brake light and the ABS inop light do not come on, but then when you drive about 10 feet they both come on at the same time. I tried to use my code reader on it but it's not flashing a code.
Re: '93 Z28 E brake light and ABS light on
You need a high-end scanner to read the EBCM system. Can't do it with a PCM scanner. The "BRAKE" light is indicating you have a pressure problem. Might want to have a pro look at it.
Re: '93 Z28 E brake light and ABS light on
I don't know about the emergency light, but I had the brake light switch replaced(under the dash)and that fixed my abs problem.(Just a note)If your third brake light is out,or the wrong wattage bulb, the abs will come on.It's all onthe same wiring diagram.Hope this helps.
