79 camaro z28

I have a 1979 camaro z28 and I want to put a newer 5.3 vortec in it. What will I all need with this swap. What tranny as well? I'm keeping it fuel injected as well.

Re: 79 camaro z28

Do you want to go with an automatic, or a manual trans? Buying a complete engine/trans with a 4L60E would appear to be the easiest swap. Adding a T56 behind the 5.3 shouldn't be that hard. Then you need the computer for the 5.3 and wiring harness. A lot of the harness can be deleted if you aren't using the eimissions functions.

While the "LS1 Engine" tech forum can help you with the mods to the 5.3, the "Classic Engine Tech" forum might turn up someone with a 2nd Gen Camaro or Firebird who has done the swap. I don't think we have a lot of 2nd Gen owners here.

If you have not done so before, you may want to check out NastyZ28 Second Generation Camaro Owners Group. It's a great 2nd gen site with lots of info.
