60's camaro

Okay, I couldn't find a forum to place this. I'm about to buy a 60's camaro. I don't know whether it's 65-70. I know it's this era, but not exactly what year. The guy said it has a 383 engine with a 400 tranny. Can anyone specify what it is exactly?

Well the car itself is going to be a 67-69. The 1967 was the very first Camaro. As far as the engine, a 383 basically is a 350 with a 400 crankshaft. Without engine numbers it is tough to tell if it is the original 350 for the car or not. I would guess probably not. As far as the Turbo 400 transmission, that is a very nice choice. Maybe post a pic of the car if you can get one. That would help us to give you more info. Good luck with that classic, you can't go wrong with a first gen.

Re: 60's camaro

I don't know a lot, but there are a few differences in the early 67-69 camaro's. A 67 and 68 are very similar, one sudtle difference is that 67's have vent windows and 68's don't. The 69 looks similar to the 68 except in front of the rear wheels it has some fin looking things molded into the quarter panel. There is a lot more, but this is how I destinquish, not to say the car is completely factory either. Get a yearone book and look at the vin to be sure. Good luck, my dad has owned a 68 for round 30 years now, and loves it more than me I think.....ha

Sounds like you need some very basic info about the history of the Camaro. Buy "The Camaro White Book" by Mike Antonick. ISBN 0-7603-1879-4.
