4th gen seats in 3rd gen
4th gen seats in 3rd gen
In addition to my 93 formula, I just picked up an 89 trans am that my g/f and I are restoring. The seats are nasty looking in it and I can get some nice ones out of a 97 trans am for $250. I know the front seats will fit no problem, but will the rear seats fit? I need to know, because I will be purchasing these tomorrow. If someone has any idea or has actually done this swap, the info would be much appreciated.
Re: 4th gen seats in 3rd gen
The seats will fit fine unless the 89 has a split rear folding seat. If it has the split rear seat, you'll need to grind off the fittings in the center where the halves hook in. The other fun is running power to the front seat if the car didn't originally have power seats but that's just a matter of finding a hot wire and patching it to the hot wire on the seat.
I put a set of TA seats in my 92 Camaro and just left the original rear ones in to retain the split rear fold downs. Then I used some nice sheepskins to cover the fronts so people couldn't see the different materials between front and rear.

Re: 4th gen seats in 3rd gen
Ok, needing additional help here: will the front seats bolt up using the 97 seat tracks, or do I have to swap the seat tracks off my old seats to the new ones? Thanks!
Re: 4th gen seats in 3rd gen
Everything bolts right in using the same tracks and fasteners. Should take only a hour to make the swap. I spent more time cleaning the carpet then putting in the seats. 95 Z28 seats into a 87 IROC-Z.
