4L60e trans swap questions

Hi all. New guy here. I have a couple questions on swapping 4L60e transmissions in a 95 Z28. I found someone selling a 95 Z28 with a blown transmission. I happen to have bought a Level 2 4L60e trans from Performabuilt for my 93 GMC 2WD pickup (93 was the first year for the 4L60e in the GM pickups), but never installed it. It's still sitting in the box it came in. The Performabuilt trans doesn't come with a tailshaft housing on it as you're supposed to take the one that was on your trans and install it onto their redone trans. You can probably guess my question already, but would the Performabuilt trans fit and work in the Z28? I'm thinking of going to a stick in my truck and thought if the redone 4L60e would work in the 95 Z28, I might just pick it up. Any other issues I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!!!

Re: 4L60e trans swap questions

I suspect you'll have issues with the converter lockup, as the 95 Z28 uses pulse width modulation, while the earlier 4L60E transmissions do not. I'm a bit foggy on details after knocking a few back, so please forgive me. I know that Performabuilt disables PWM in their units, so I think your only issue is with the PCM programming. The info is on this board somewhere, but if you can't find it, give Frank at Performabuilt a call and he'll have your answer.

Why not just check with Performabuilt?
