40mph Punch=dead Hole

Sup guys. My A4 sucks from 40 MPH. I kill anything on the road from below 30 and from 60+. Is there any way to help this, or is a torque converter the only way?

Mine's the same way, I guess it's just the gearing.

On my LT1 I had exactally the same problem, at some speeds, around 40MPH is one of them, You punch it, its just a dog. Yes at low RPM's its like I am waiting for it get get near 3500 RPM's.

I installed a Vigilante 2800 on the A4, and to tell ya the truth, it was like an act of god. Any time I got on it, at any speed it usually flashed up to 3700 RPM. It was amazing. AT highway speeds the TQ would lock up and it felt normal, but if I step on it, It just downshifts and the motor came alive.

I am going to put a Vigilante in my 00' Formula in 2 weeks, I know 1st hand that this will solve that issue.

I ran a car w/a small converter for over 11 years. When you get up in higher speeds and higher gears, it won't do a thing for ya. Get some steeper gears.

Who was talking about higher speeds and higher gears?????

I have a Yank ST3800 in the 00 Formula and there isn't a dead spot anywhere because even if it is at a point where it won't down shift it still flashes to 4000rpm or so and hauls butt.

Welcome to the world of the A4 trannny. By their nature, they have a dead spot.

A good TC will help your problem and you will notice an immediate difference.

Thats odd.. just playing around, my A4 feels strong holding 2nd gear around 30-40... the best power i get from 2nd.
What gears do you have? (mine are stock 3.23s)

I know this is an old thread, but I found it with the "search" function.

I think I have the same problem. I was thinking it was stumbling from something electrical or maybe minor wheelhop, but the more I read this thread, it sounds like what I'm going through.

The window from 40mph to 50mph is horrible to punch it. It bogs for 1/2 a sec. Anything slower or faster is great.

Notice this after I rebuilt the tranny and changed gears in the back. Here's my set up:

2200 stall
3.73s
speedo reprogrammed for 3.73s

I only notice it if I'm in 4th gear. I can feel the 3-4 shift and then know I'm in this ugly dead spot.

Would reprogramming shift points fix this, or will it just move the "dead spot"? How about a higher stall..I've seen people talk about it in this thread...did that fix the problem?
