2002 Camaro
2002 Camaro
My friend has a 02 camaro z28, I'm curious to what he can do with his car, but I don't even know exactly what i'm looking for. It's completely stock so what is the engine code? Basically anything that I can tell him he can do with this car to make it faster.
Re: 2002 Camaro
Heads, cam,Lid,nitrous, gears, stall convertor or good clutch, intake manifold (even though he has the LS6 style already which is good).
Guessing by your username, you have a 'stang. Unfortunately for you, once the modding begins you'll be playing catch-up.

Re: 2002 Camaro
actually I have a lightning, but i'm already playing catch up as it is. I stayed with him until about 110 mph and sadly he pulled away. But that sparked my interest in his car and my truck. I want my truck to be faster than his car but I also want to have competition. What exactly does LS6 mean I know it's his engine but what does it stand for?
Re: 2002 Camaro
okay so ls6 is intake, are there any minor mods he can do to gain some power? I'm trying to talk him into modding it some but I know if I say anything about the heads right away he'll never go for it.
Re: 2002 Camaro
Tell him to leave the intake as is for now, there's no need to swap it.
First thing I'd do (and almost anyone would do) would be exhaust. There's a lot of options. I'd personally go with long tube headers and true duals, but there isn't really a "kit" for that, it's something a shop hast to custom do. ground clearence is also going to be a lot less with this set-up. However, in the end it usually performs and sounds better then a normal cat-back and it's a few hundred cheaper too. I'd go with some longtubes (pick your brand) and then run an h-pipe into some dual bullets and dumps before the axle. Part total is cheap, headers are the most expensive thing at around $250-$600 or so. If you just buy some decent Hedman headers and then the other parts it should only be about $350 + labor for the shop. Figure right around $500-$500.
The other option is to go with some shorty or mid-length headers and the run a cat-back system. Headers of your choie (mid-length is probably the best option) and then into a cat-back of your choice. I'd personally reccomend the SLP loudmouth, but it's your choice.
The 3rd and probably best overall option is to go with a mufflex system. You can run the long tube headers, then buy a y-pipe from Mufflex. After that you can run their cat-back. With this set-up your going to get about the same amount of power as true duals and it'll go on easier and ground clearence will be a lot better as well.
