2000 camaro a/c issues

I am having issues with my a/c compressor. It is not coming on. If it doesnt have freon in it will the a/c compressor kick on? I just bought the car and the guy said when he charged the a/c with freon it only worked for a day. However the compressor is not even kicking on. Just trying to figure out where to start on this a/c problem. He said it had a leak.

Yeah the compressor won't kick on if it's really low on referigerant. If he's telling the truth and has a leak you can purchase a recharge kit yourself and use referigerant that has a dye in it to try and track it down. You can also look for signs of oil leaking around the fittings/connections - one common source for leaks is where the pipe connects to the condensor, or maybe the pipe itself where it was rubbing somewhere.
