20 years of rust
20 years of rust
ok...there is 20 years of rust on my stock exhaust manifold, espesially on the bolts.i've got the top bolts off but am unable to get the bottom bolts off.their on there really good.my question is how do i get all that rust off so i can get the lower bolts off?this one part is stoping me from finishing long needed repairs.
Re: 20 years of rust
get some good penetrating oil and soak the bolts and let it sit
repeat if necesary . . . you can try air tolls to help remove or a breaker bar for added strength . . .
it's most likely going to come down to some serious elbow grease and busted knuckles

Re: 20 years of rust
Good luck man I snapped a bolt on the manifold trying to get it off last year. Over the years the extreme heat makes those things impossible to move (Yes I even tried liquid wrench etc) I took it to my friend who works at a dealer and he hit it with heat and that seems to be the easiest way to get it done. Problem with that is of course u have to watch burning your wires but thats how the dealers do it.
Re: 20 years of rust
well i have no sympathy for the blinkin wires if they become casualties in my war against these bolts.i'm doing a performance overhaul anyway so it wireing is getting replaced too.hello mr.blowtorch i see your services are once again required.
