1st Gen Steering Wheels

Morning all,

I've got a 68 camaro and am trying to replace the steering wheel. The problem that I have encountered is that none of the steering wheels I have found for replacement match my steering wheel. At first, I thought that perhaps this was a steering wheel off of a Nova/Chevelle/etc but I can't find a wheel to match searching through them either!

In doing more research, I have found several other 68's with this steering wheel.

Since I haven't been able to figure out how to post pictures here, the best I can do is provide the link to an ebay auction of a 68 camaro with the same steering wheel http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...A1%3A1v_search

Any and all information on this wheel would be much appreciated (and/or where I can get a replacement)

Thanks and have a great one!

You might try a few companies like:
Year one: http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/h...G11616&Style=3

Classic industries: www.classicindustries.com

or if all else fails you could try to repair your original one with a kit like this:

Re: 1st Gen Steering Wheels

thanks for the info pop. Unfortunately, neither year one or classic industries have the steering wheel that I do. The center section of the wheel is fine, it is the outer wheel that has cracks in it due to age. Reparing it is an option, but replacement is much easier.

My biggest question is why I do not see many of these steering wheels. If they were an option of some sort (i can't find an rpo listing for them as an option) or are they a rip off from another gm?

Thanks for the reply!

Here are a few sites that might help you decode your car/options:

http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#InteriorColors

http://www.holisticpage.com/camaro/parts/68rpo.htm

you might try asking these guys too:
http://camaros.org/askcrg.shtml

I'm not as familiar with Camaro interiors as Firebirds, but that looks like a custom interior ($110.60 option). Not too many places out there that offer original replacement steering wheels. You can replace it with aftermarket or wood or scour ebay/swap meets for a replacement. The steering wheel on my 1967 Firebird has the same problem with cracks and I have decided to try to fix it myself with a repair kit from Eastwood. Good luck!
