1996 ss camaro cat replacment????

I am doing a huge project(engine rebuild, tranny clutch, supercharger) on my SS and I have a decent budget but not enough to waste money. The problem is I don't know if should replace my cats with the mac exhaust system which includes two brand new cats and headers y pipe all in one kit it is $700.00 from ws6.com. I am recieving a p420 code which bank one cat threshold below limits I am very worried.

Question #1 should i replace my cats or will they be ok

Question #2 P420 code common maybe exhaust leak?

Question #3 Any other way of repalcing cat with other companies?

Thanks guys
Brian

not sure if you realize it, but any code resulting from bad cats, or being triggered by the rear o2 sensors, has no affect on the running condition of the car.

well...with the exception of it indicating a CLOGGED cat...but that's the cat doing the damage, not the code that it's throwing.

i say swap it out, the stock system is gonna choke you if you SC it

When do you plan on running the headers and y-pipe? If it is in the near future, you might as well just save your money for that, but if it isn't going to be for awhile, then it is a good idea to replace the cat. Carsound makes some cheap, yet good quality cats.

It seems from what you said on the 96 there are two cats and you can replace them with any one? I thought you needed speacail shaped ones for it too fit?
